What to do after a motor vehicle incident

Stop your vehicle and remain at the scene

Leaving the scene of an accident is an offence. Whether you were directly or indirectly involved in an accident, you must remain at the scene or immediately return.

Call 911

  • If you or anyone involved have injuries.

  • Or if the damage to all vehicles involved is over $2,000.

Report to a Collision Reporting Centre (CRC)

  • If there are no injuries to anyone involved in the incident and the damage to all vehicles involved is under $2,000.

  • Make sure you report to a CRC within 24 hours of the incident.

When it’s possible and safe to do so

  • Move your vehicle to the side of the road.

  • Take photos of the scene and damage to the vehicles.

  • Exchange insurance information with other parties involved.

  • Drive your vehicle home.

If your vehicle is not safe to drive and needs to be towed

  • You have the option to call your own tow service.

  • You can also call our network of auto repair shops that provide 24/7 towing service such as Fix Auto, CarStar, CSN or Assured.
